Unlike the traditional 3 foot pleasure punts of Oxford and Cambridge, racing punts are only 2 feet wide and much lighter. They are propelled from amidships with aluminium poles, and are surprisingly fast. For advanced punters, Best & Best punts exist which are extremely light and as little as 14" wide!

Learning to punt is something which requires some dedication, but is an extremely rewarding experience. Punting is run under the rules of the TPC - Thames Punting Club.
